Peter's expertise is in the field of Integrated Risk Management, Governance Strategies, Business Ethics and Innovative Sustainable Strategies. Currently, Peter is a Visiting Scholar and Senior Fellow in the area of Governance and International Business at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management and Associate at the Mt Eliza Melbourne Business School. When not in Melbourne ? he advises companies in Asia on corporate governance strategies and how to limit potential reputation risk or to pro-actively seek innovative business opportunities through more aligned operations and strategies. Over the last 2-3 years, he advised a number of international Asian companies on integrated risk management and sustainable governance strategies in Jakarta, KL, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was recently appointed as Advisor and Chief Governance Officer of the Great Union Oil Investments Limited and Great Union Group Limited, a newly established international multi-billion USD gas- and oil trading company with headquarters in Hong Kong, owned by a distinguished number of international shareholders. In the mid 90s, he co-founded Cimad Pacific Consultants and its subsidiary C-Consulting in Singapore and Indonesia respectively. He used to run those two ICT companies from 1994 till 2006 when they were merged into a bigger consulting group in Indonesia. The focus was on advising companies regarding their ICT strategies and to implement e-solutions through tailor-made information systems, mainly in South East Asia. In his capacity as CEO of Cimad Pacific Consultants, he collaborated with IBM-Cimad Belgium to sell the Scripless Clearing & Settlement System for the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 1998, and advised a number of Securities Companies how to improve their efficiency in the late 90s. During the Asian crisis (1998-2002) he became a Senior Financial Advisor to the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA). In that position, he and his team restructured and negotiated bad debt worth over USD 1 billion with (international) banks and a number of Indonesian companies on behalf of IBRA (Ministry of Finance). Prior to that, Peter used to briefly work as an international management consultant at Swift for IBM-Cimad where he prepared the implementation process of an ERP at Swift?s Financial Department. In the early 90s he was appointed as Managing Director of a small publicly OTC listed Indonesian company, Sofyan Hotels, which was then acquired by Brookshire Hotels International, an international hotel management group with HQ in Washington DC. He subsequently became Vice President Marketing & Business Development for Brookshire Hotels International in SE Asia. During his 20 years long career as a practitioner in Asia, Peter has continued to accept short term teaching assignments or was invited as a speaker on Business Ethics and International Governance at a number of institutions, among which INSEAD Singapore, Oxford UK, Leuven University, Antwerp University, Hong Kong City University, University of Indonesia, The World Bank (Washington DC-US), the Hanoi Banking Institute (Vietnam), Singapore Monetary Authority, the Budapest School of Economics (Hungary), The European Parliament, CEIBS (Shanghai), Fudan University (Shanghai) and the Harvard Kennedy School (Cambridge MA). In 1984, Peter won the prestigious Taymans Prize, i.e. the first price for best thesis in International Economics and Economic History (University of Antwerp) with an analysis on the political and economic situation of the Soviet Union. In 2007 and 2008, he received the Dean?s Award & Certificate for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Melbourne. He has been writing on Governance Practices, Networking and Guanxi relations, Business Ethics and Gift Practices in an international business context. He also published in the area of international governance and business ethics in Academic Journals such as Public Integrity, Journal of International Business Ethics, Journal of Business Ethics, Ethical Perspectives, Filosofie en Praktijk and Streven. His book on Gift Practices in International Business has been published by Peter Lang Oxford in June 2009 and a jointly written book with Professor Howard Dick on Governance in International Business will be published by Edward Elgar Publishing-UK at the end of 2010. He is co-authoring and co-editing a book on Corporate Governance in Indonesia with Erry Riyana and Pri Notowidigdo to be published by ISEAS-NUS mid 2010. Peter studied Applied Economics (MA) with a major in International Relations at the University of Antwerp and Management (MBA with major in Finance) at the Leuven Management School (in collaboration with Chicago B' School). He also holds a degree in Philosophy (MA & PhD) from the University of Leuven in Belgium.
